Oh to be young and hip...

After 8yrs away from study, I am returning to a brand new university, and degree. Today I had welcome seminars, my first day on campus.

I apologise now for anyone I offend. Seriously thought, go to a uni campus in 5-10 years time and you'll understand!

I tell you what, Nicole Ritchie et al. have a LOT to answer for! There was an abundance of big sunglasses (which make you look like a fly), off-the-shoulder tops with belts that are fatter than the skirt is long (a badly dressed fly), and a chorus of "Omagawd", "Like, yeah" and "Is my hair ok?" (a badly dressed Americanised* fly) in the line up for student ID cards.

The clique's were forming with the girls in the lecture's, eagerly swapping phone numbers because they are "so gonna call you like, EVERY day", and the whispers started as a not-as-pretty girl walked in - "Ugh, I hope she doesn't try to sit near us". I was actually disgusted by that comment, couldn't pettiness be left at the door? I ended up chatting to that girl later, she's smart. For starters she didn't waste breath on the airheads.

And the gadgets! I ONLY had my mobile phone with me, boy did I feel left out. I think I might wear headphones next time, with the plug just sitting in my bag, not plugged in to anything. Might have to practice the "what I'm listening to is SO much more important than anything you could ever have to say" look, or does it come as standard?

Most of today left me amused, and bemused. It's wonderful, and a little scary to look at things with a few years under your belt (and a bit of baby belly still over it!). I found myself wondering if "mature age students" looked at me the same way when I hit uni fresh out of high school. I like to think they didn't, for one I never wore a skirt! It's going to be an interesting journey...

*everyday Australian life seems to be becoming more and more like the TV shows imported from America. I mean no offense to most Americans =P

I feel you brother I had been to eight countries lived in ten states and then went back to college at 27. I felt like a dinosaur. It killed me to hear how arrogant kids are running around thinking oh once I have my degree as if they hand you a job with the bloody thing.
hang in there I found I was the older wiser voice that people came to for all sorts of things. Everything from talking folks out of suicide to movie tips.
peace
oh thanks for the fave.
